Printer-friendly version
Domino system administrators can broadcast messages to all users or selected users on a server. Typically, this is used to warn users when a server is going to be brought down for maintenance.

You can initiate the message in one of two ways: either by using the Broadcast console command or by using the R5 Domino Administrator client. The broadcast message appears in the status bar on each user's Notes client, for example:

Broadcast message in the status bar

This tip shows you how to use the R5 Domino Administrator client to broadcast your message in a dialog box, rather than in the status bar.
    1. Click the Server - Status tab.
    2. Select the users to whom you want to send the message in the bottom pane of the Server - Status tab. If you want to send the message to all users, do not select anyone.
    3. Under Tools, click User - Broadcast Message.
    4. Important: Choose All connected users or Selected user, depending on what you want to do. Even if you selected users on the Server - Status tab, you still need to choose Selected user here.
    5. Enter your message in the "Broadcast this message" field. Here's the tip: begin the message with (!), for example:

(!) Here is a broadcast message in a dialog box

    6. Click Send. Here is the result:

Note: Use this tip with caution. Although it may seem desirable to broadcast messages in a dialog box, users must respond to the dialog by clicking OK or pressing Enter. This means that each Notes client will stop what it is doing until the dialog box is cleared
