When VB launched, it warns of an inaccessible virtual hd. When attempting to add the VD to a test VM, got this error:
VD: error VERR_VD_IMAGE_CORRUPTED opening image file 'filename' (VERR_VD_IMAGE_CORRUPTED).

(VD type was VHD)

Was able to repair it using:
C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox>vboxmanage internalcommands repairhd filename -format VHD

Even though I tried removing the drive and re-adding it (path changed in anticipation of joining Tonya @ CalCSC to the domain) I received an error that the drive already existed:
Failed to open the disk image file C:\Tech Tools\Old System\VirtualBox VMs\2016-04 Cust Serv\3FFD04663936C5E8-00-00.vhd.
Cannot register the hard disk 'filename' {UUID} because a hard disk 'filename' with UUID {UUID} already exists.

Was able to resolve it with this command:
C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox>VBoxManage internalcommands sethduuid filename
