Use an FTP client such as Filezilla to add a folder to
wp-content/themes/
in order to create a child theme. Typically, name it
ThemeYou'reModifying
-child
In this new child folder, place a CSS file (pretty much, just a text file that's been saved with a
.css
extension) that is formatted with the following:
/*
Theme Name:
name of the theme - usually with "child"
Template:
name of the theme you're modifying, followed by an asterisk and a slash
@import url("../
name of parent
/style.css
For example, for the Divi theme:
/*
Theme Name: Divi Child
Template: Divi*/@import url("../Divi/style.css");
Place a copy of any files from the original theme that need to be modified into the child folder.
Activate the child theme and any files that are not present in the child folder will be inherited from the parent theme.
